As part of PyCon, Mark Lavin, Caleb Smith, and David Ray will be presenting on the basics of SMS application development using Django and Django-based RapidSMS. They'll walk participants through building an app in which you can create a group, join a group, and broadcast messages to the group. Attendees will learn the basic anatomy of an SMS-based application, how to get started with RapidSMS and building SMS workflows, how to test SMS applications, and the common challenges and solutions involved in building SMS applications. Caktus developers have used SMS application in a variety of difference contexts; this talk will focus on participants gaining insight into which tools and challenges to consider when working in first world versus developing countries when it comes to coding for social innovation.
